I think I got registered. Thanks. I enjoy Lewis as well... Piper and Packer are two of my fave authors. I'm assuming that by Lewis you mean C.S. Lewis. If so, I definitely agree. I enjoy reading any CS Lewis book and I have also enjoyed what I've read of John Piper. have you checked out Francis Schaeffer or George McDonald? they're really inspiring and thought-provoking for me.

yeah CS Lewis... Mere Christianity is awesome! So profound.
I have heard of Schaeffer but not the other person. What are some books by them you'd recommend?
For a really interesting book that's not your normal type of reading... read Blue Like Jazz by donald miller... "nonreligious thoughts on Christian spirituality"

George MacDonald was a Scottish Romantic-era novelist whom Lewis is quoted as saying "He was my master. I never wrote a book in which I didn't quote George MacDonald." In fact, in Lewis' book "The Great Divorce," it is MacDonald that explains heaven and hell to Lewis. I think I've heard of that book "Blue like Jazz." I'll buy it if I can find it for cheap.

I know some guys who are really high on the Blue Like Jazz book. I have too many books on my list to read that I will have to wait on that one. Right now, though I am going through the Purpose Driven Life. Just the first two days have really gotten me to think more.

Hmmm, I read a lot of books anyway, but mostly they're by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Patterson...stuff like that. I've tried reading Purpose Driven Life, but I never could really get it into it, what with having to read one chapter per day and all. My youth group has done Bible studies from that book though, and they're awesome.

I have a stack of books that one day I will get to. I would love to read Ragamuffin Gospel again and this time, more in depth. Wounded Spirit by Frank Peretti was a very helpful book for me. Purpose Driven Life has been so eye opening to me so far. My wife reads a ton of stuff. Ted Dekker is one author that comes to mind.

Ragamuffin's Gospel is a great book. Also check out Abba's Child and Ruthless Trust (also by Brennan Manning)

yeah i bought that book and lost it.
Anything by Donald Miller is amazing.I read Searching for God Knows What (whoah, who woulda thunk they would sell this in a Christian bookstore...he has one part of a chapter where he attacks the religious right...its absolutely brilliant...he compares homosexuals as not attacking America as some radio show host said, but rather the religious right...and in a war we dont attack the hostages (homosexuals and others not welcome to mainstream christianity) we attack the enemy (Satan) ) Hes my hero.I hope hes the new voice of what theyre selling in Family Christian Bookstores because half the time Im crying and wanting to clap reading his book.
I just finished Blue Like Jazz not too long ago.And theyre re-releasing his first book...where he chronicles his stay with hippies in the forest and finding more of God.
I really wanna hear him talk too.

oh i forgot to add...Searching for God Knows What is where he breaks down the Bible as one big love story between God and Man,and as opposed to some big book of rules. His first chapter on Genesis where he talks about Creation left me shell shocked...the way he paints Adam meeting Eve,totally beats any Hallmark card on Valentine's Day.
And he says how he wants people to read his book and get a different view of the Bible after reading it.
And Blue Like Jazz is really where he discusses the Christian Walk...he has an amazing chapter on tithing and Churches...half the time I felt like I was talking to myself.
He has a very easy going, breaking it down process..you feel like youre reading a conversation with your friends at coffee shop or a bar.Which makes sense since those are the places he writes his book at.
He was just featured in Relevant Magazine.

When i first heard your name i knew it instantly, because i took a class called the Literary Hero, in which we studied classic archetypes, and since i go to a christian highschool our term paper was on how Christ fit the "Ultimate Hero" according to archetypes. Unusual birth, quest, sacrafice, etc. I was glad i got to use some info that i thought was pretty useless

yeh i went to a Baptist college and studied Christian theology for 2 and a half years. i have not read that particular book but i will look into it. my personal collection is pretty small, but i have Erickson's Systematic Theology and Geisler's Christian Ethics. Other than that i have lots concordances, lexicons, commentarys and a whole pile of smaller works. Some authors i have read lately are Lewis, Tozer, and Schaeffer. and oh yeh! remember to actually sign up as i will only be allowing guests to post for a little while here. God bless!! DUDE! you are Baptist? ;D
