You didn't answer my question. Where's the metal in their music? The drumming isn't metal, the riffing isn't metal, and the vocal style isn't metal.

Okay, well that's weird. You're going to assume that they're metalcore without really having a reason for it.
I guess I could also tell you that Johnny Cash is the greatest black-metal band ever.

the only difference is im right ...or at least im pretty sure for the most part. I say we let the people vote! make a poll in the music discussion because im in class and i dont have time right now... btw, you never did say what genre you thought they where...?

They're in the umbrella genre of post-hardcore. Some would call them 'chaotic post-hardcore', others would call them 'mathcore'. They are definitely heavily influenced by mathcore, and they also have elements of rock in their music.
Popular opinion can be wrong too. A lot of people call Hawthorne Heights 'emo' when they have nothing to do with the genre.

bah... i stay away from all those subsub genres or whatever... ive heard mewithoutyou and as cities burn called post-hardcore... and they certainly dont sound like either two... so whatever.. ill stick with metalcore since ive heard a lot of other similar bands that have been labeled metalcore so yea.. whatever...

'Metalcore' is a subgenre, so you can't possibly say you'll stay away from subgenres because you're using one. I also find it a little off-putting that you're choosing to believe in something simply because everyone else is, even though you've been shown a logical alternative and have not been able to logically support the popular opinion.

Why does this bring back old memories? beause it does *cough*As Cities Burn*cough* i wish i could have some awesome musical revelation that would blow everyone out of the water. but i don't. both wikipedia and their purevolume say they are metalcore (however, their myspace says otherwise). i can't say for myself what i think they sound like. their old stuff (such as BTMAKTC) i've always thought of as metalcore. but their new stuff i would say sounds strangely like Thrice (which i would call post-hardcore). well, that's my two-cents. i can't really back any of that up but it's out there none the less

Wikipedia is edited publicly, so it's naturally going to display the popular opinion. I like Wikipedia, but it's inherently flawed (which is, actually, a good thing).
Purevolume is set up by the band or their label, to they can put whatever they want.
You have to let history dictate genres, otherwise genres become meaningless. Already, the terms 'emo' and 'punk' have lost basically all of their meaning, because people popularize them without actually knowing what they mean. 'Hardcore' and 'metal' are going the same route.
