Both faith and lack of faith can be tied back to "upbringings, insecurities, perceptions, etc" in some ways. People without faith have subjective rationales just as people with faith do. For me, based on my experiences, it would be absurd not to believe in God, just as Brent says, "it's absurd to believe in God."
No adult believes in Santa because there is nothing that points to Santa's existence for most of us. We found the Wal-Mart tags on our toys, and heard mom or dad barging around downstairs at night.
The belief in God is different because there are things that lead people to believe there is a God. You follow the relevant hints in life and come to the conclusion, "Yes God exists, and this is what I believe He's like." Or, "No, I have followed the hints, and they have brought me to the conclusion that we're completely on our own."

And around and around we go with the hints (i.e. personal experience)

Any conclusion for or against God is based on one's logical interpretation of the world around him or her. There is no case where this isn't so, except for someone who doesn't think critically about such things.

BTA Boards: GOD
Brent: Faith is illogical, and cannot be proven because of this.
BTA Boards: GOD
Brent: You cannot prove that God exists because the only evidence you have is from personal experience, which is invalid to anyone besides you.
BTA Boards: GOD
Brent: In order to satisfy the questions of one who doubts the existence of God, you must provide them with substantial evidence that supersedes all personal experience and reliance on faith.
BTA Boards: GOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDD
Brent: *sigh*

I still don't know why any believer has to justify his/her faith to anyone else. If you want to know if God is there or not, then look for Him, but without your physical senses.

Just thought I'd join in on this conversation...
Well, just because God cannot physically be seen does not mean He doesn't exist. Isn't that why His followers are called believers? We trust in what we cannot see. Yes, there are certain aspects of God that we can point out and use as proof of His existence. However, God also has several mysteries about Him that man is incapable of understanding.

You'll learn. You'll learn quickly.
Oh, and @ Brent: You mean this post?
"EVERY THREAD ENDS THE SAME NO POINT EVER
FAITH = BELIEF WITHOUT LOGICAL EVIDENCE
LOGIC = FACTUAL REASON FOR BELIEF
INCOMPATIBLE, IRRECONCILABLE, AND INCONCEIVABLY INDIFFERENT TO EACH OTHER. THEY ARE INDEPENDENT THOUGHT PROCESSES OF EACH OTHER, TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE OPTIONS IN THE "A" OR "B" MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST THAT IS LIFE. THERE IS NO POINT IN ARGUING, NO POINT IN DEBATING, AND NO POINT IN TRYING TO CONVINCE ONE ANOTHER OF THE IRREFUTABLE PURPOSE IN ADOPTING ONE OR THE OTHER AS THEIR PERSONAL WAY OF DEDUCTION OF WHAT IS TRUE.
THEREFORE, I NOW GRACIOUSLY EXTEND TO EVERYONE IN THIS ENTIRE SECTION OF THE FORUM, BEFORE, NOW, AND AFTER, A WARM AND HEARTY
SHUT THE f**k UP."
