I'm glad to hear you're alright. I was talking with my parents about it the other night and they were questioning why this tornado was so deadly - do you feel that people were not properly prepared, or what exactly happened? Did the warning systems nor work? I'd like to hear from someone who was there. Your town definitely has my prayers.

It literally ripped through the heart of the city where everyone lives and works/shops. While people took cover, there's only so much you can do to be safe from a tornado this size. For example, everyone was huddled in the back of the Wal-Mart where the strongest wall was -- but the wall collapsed on everyone that was standing there. It actually started as two separate tornadoes, and then they joined into one. And from what I've been told, the hail and winds were so loud that people weren't able to hear the sirens when they went off. This was simply a terrible storm.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't have a storm cellar/basement

Like Jeremy said, it is surprising more folks don't have cellars, but when a storm like that comes in as fast as it did, there's not a whole lot anyone can do.
