One does have to wonder... Paul says "I do not permit a woman to have authority over a man."

Even though the Scripture that Paul was referring to was the Law and Prophets.
Don't get me wrong; I venerate the various Epistles. But it also helps to know a little context; after all, Paul was merely addressing a specific church.

I'm confused by everything in that post Where are the Law and Prophets referred to? I mean, the Law is mentioned in 1 Ti 1, but I don't get what it has to do with this? "All Scripture is God-breathed." At that time, "Scripture" only referred to the Law and the Prophets. "I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God." The women were distracting to the men of the church by dressing themselves up in this fashion.... I'm sure any of us that are straight and have gone through puberty can attest that a woman who has gone through trouble to make herself pretty for church will hold a certain "authority" over the men.

Some versions of the translation say "authority over her husband," which draws both what I said and the bit about Adam and Eve together. The husband was responsible for giving the alms for and confessing the sins of the household, as well as expressing revelation/testimony; a wife who presented herself in such ostentatious fashion and tried to speak for her husband would throw things into chaos and disrupt the order of worship.
In regard to the "separate command" objection, there's nothing except a period to give one reason to think that they aren't highly related.

imho i find it ironic that some church congregations find it ludicrous to have a female pastor when even in schools all teachers used to be female. people even found it strange when they started hearing about male school teachers. i know that church and school are two different things but i honestly believe that if someone has something to say then let them say it. it shouldn't matter what sex or race they are. just because women are supposed to play a submissive role in a marriage shouldn't mean that should prohibit them from being a pastor in a church
