i like those square 5.1 creative speakers, especially the older models.... which are black.... they handle a good amount of volume without distorting too much, and theyre easy to set up and all.... plus theyre pretty cheap

Creative makes some good products. You could check if the new Bose or Klipsch systems have a line-in on certain models. Both these companies are exceptional.

Not many people leave stuff on the side of the street here unless it's unrepairable junk. EDIT: I envy you, rizzo. I WANT TO LIVE IN ANN ARBOR. I loved it there.

I think Logitech is the way to go. The speakers I'm using are 5 years old, and they still sound great.

Meh, anything that is sold as a pc sound system will be pretty rubbish. Get some proper hifi kit, you don't have to spend too much to get a nice system. The system we've just built for our lounge cost about £130, and thats a big one. Alternatively do what I've also been known to do and set up large PA stacks either side of your desk

get some cheap studio monitors. you could find a pair of m-audios for about a $100. you cant mix through them but all you want is to listen to music though them. right?

bose stuff is overpriced and sounds rubbish. You must have been the victim of a defect product. Everything I've tried so far has been amazing.

I work in live sound and bose's stuff is just as odd in that realm.
Don't spend out on logitech, you can get FAR better for your money!

why is it not being 5.1 a problem?
if you're only going to be listening to music on it, then 2.1 is way better anyway. also, you don;t have to faff about with putting speakers everywhere either.
anyway, as far as recommendations go, if it's available in the US, Acoustic Energy's Aego M 2.1 system is pretty good.
