With God ALL things are possible,God does answer prayers,God works in mysterious ways, anything is possible if it's his will.

Shred, I really appreciate your fervour but I doubt that's going to change the mind of whoever owns this website.

This guy's views got me to thinking about this (why some prayers are answered and some are not). I believe with every fiber of my being that God can do anything excepting two things:
1. God cannot FORCE us to do anything, as he has given us free will.
2. God cannot NOT LOVE US! He is pure love, so therefore he is not capable of not loving us.
So, if he can do anything, why doesn't he grow an amputee's leg back, for example? Here is my theory. God is a MYSTERY, which we, with our human minds, cannot begin to comprehend. And, as a mystery, he does things for his own reasons and with his own methods, which are often hidden to us. He does most of His works through other people, very seldomly using a "Blatant miracle". He wants us to believe in Him through FAITH, which is believing, although not having solid proof. When He did come to earth in the person of Jesus, God finally gave SOLID PROOF of His existence through the miracles of Jesus. There was a blind man by birth whose sight was restored, people risen from the dead, lame men who could suddenly walk! Why don't we see miracles like that today? Simple, JESUS ISN'T HERE IN THE FLESH TO PERFORM THEM! Now, that's not going to help a man change his mind who obviously has a vendetta against God, but my answer is the one I would give as to why he doesn't answer some prayers for miracles. And the guy's list of prayers (putting the Empire State Building into the middle of Paris, etc)? These are ridiculous! God grants prayers that are beneficial to the asker (whether the asker is aware of it at the time or not). What possible benefit can become of the Empire State Building showing up in Paris?! GEEZ! That kind of "show me" proof is beneath God and insulting to him! IF the guy really wants answers as to God's existence, he should pray for openness to receive God, not force God to show His mighty hand!

Well, you have to determine the basis for your argument, and then simplify. He is arguing the non-existance of God based on the fact that God does not answer prayers; you should say that the non-answer of prayers suggests a God contrary to what we want God to be, but it doesn't not refute the existence of God. Totally. Just because God is all-loving and all-powerful does not mean that he is what we want him to be. For some reason, God chooses not to give amputees their limbs back, but to pray to him expecting that, because he is all-loving and all-powerful, he will do what you tell him to is not cool. Do not test God. I really don't know the answer to the question, why do bad things happen to good people, but I do know that to think you can control God through prayer is -not- right. The basis of sin is pride, thinking that we are above God. For example, Eve and the apple. Eve was told not to eat from the tree, but she did so anyway becuase she, for some reason, thought she could disobey God like it was no big deal. Granted, she was tricked into beleiving this, but such is life, temptation is everywhere. My point is that think that you are above God, to try and tell him to do something like hover a car or make you instantly rich is pride, you think you can tell God what to do, and that is wrong.

I wonder if he interviewed any actual amputees? I know my grandfather doesn't view his disabilty in a negative way. It actually made him appreciate his life much more (in his words). He's thankful that, even though he lost his ability to walk, he's still alive. His words mean so much more to me than the words of that guy.

Another thing that is valid, but won't actually disprove his argument, is that the loss of limbs is, in the majority of cases, a result of human action. Chemical pesticides that cause birth defects: human action. War: human action. God has defined his purpose to be doing what is best for us, but not necessarily cleaning everything up after us.
It's like, if I say something that is really hurtful to someone, I can't expect God to fix it for me if I pray. Prayer will help, but ultimately I still need to apologize and the other person still needs to forgive me.
