they were a band in the 70's....I'm pretty sure they smoked pot Even if they did, it isn't reflected in their music. Certain drugs lead to certain discernible musical characteristics. I'd like a detailed review of what drugs lead to what discernible musical characteristics. Just out of curiosity. I also hate justifying myself on the internet for fear of being taken the wrong way....

Weed rules I rarely smoke it, but I think it's great in the proper situations, so long as it doesn't become too big of a part of your life It's like alcohol or fast food f**k**g awesome when it's not a constant part of your life, and f**k**g stupid when it IS your life If you're just flat out against it as a whole, you probably haven't tried it, or at least tried it with an open mind I LOVE HOW FERD WASTED A TRILLION YEARS TO SAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, AND THIS RIGHT HERE IS TRUE. I fail to see how anything shiv said is "truth". Just because he says it's ok doesn't make it so. I don't exactly look at shiv as the kind of person that I feel the need to get an "ok" from. While what he said does have some merit, and I agree to an extent, saying that it's truth, and then turn around and say that Ferd's DOCUMENTED facts are nothing is just damn foolish. And I think it was pretty obvious that Rush were on something back in the 70's. It may not have been reflected in their lyrics, but it was reflected in the music.

Well it "obviously" isn't "obvious" to me. I can't think of any of their songs that sound druggy...
And about the effects, it's pretty simple actually. Basically music reflects the person, therefore the effects of the drug on the person will be be reflected in the music. Long, spaced-out jam sessions? Weed. Dreamy, melodic/artsy songs? LSD. Tense, spastic, high energy? Crack. And so on.

"2112" sounds druggy and features the long, spaced-out jam sessions. As do many of their earlier, more lengthy songs.

They were huge Yes fans when that was released and the Yes influence oozes out all over place on that album. So it's indirect drugginess due to their influences, who most definitely did do drugs.
