I know there's a couple guys that know their guns on here so I figured I'd ask you guys. I'm looking to buy 1 hopefully 2 custom colt .45s or 1911. I have a couple questions, 1) would you recommend a .45 or a 1911? and 2) the kind im looking at is pictured below, whats the difference between those and the standard (the awesomely sick barrel is what i like about these customs)?

I'd suggest getting a colt .45 and two zig zags.

I'm personally a big fan of 1911s and would suggest getting one. I'm pretty happy with my Springfield A1 Loaded 1911 but Colt is a great way to go. The one you have pictured seems like a bit of overkill to me though... That kind of gun is made more for competitive shooting where the marksmen devote thousands and thousands of hours and dollars to shooting. Unless you're planning on shooting competitively, I don't really see the need for all the special stuff. Also why do you want two?

Ahh ok that helps a lot kerrick, thanks. That's very overkill ha. I dunno 2 is always better then 1 and I don't really want a rifle. Is there a noticable differnence between the .45s and the 1911s?

Screw modern guns! ^Thats the best double wielding weapons ever! but anyway, i would recommend getting just a standard 1911, old school, it's my favorite pistol. and yes, unless you're doing competitive shooting, there's no need for anything custom. also, unless you have your heart set on a 1911, check out a Glock 40. i've shot one of those many times and it's a nice gun.

The only .45s I've shot have been 1911s, so I can't say really if there's much of a difference between a nice 1911 and whatever other .45s Colt offers. However, the 1911 has been in production for about 100 years and as far as I know, is the oldest .45 handgun still used often. It's a tried-and-true design that has been perfected for about a century, so you really can't go wrong with a good 1911. You can get them in different calibers, though .45 is the most common and it definitely does the job. As far as two goes, I'd say get one to start off with and see if you really want another. Unless you want to devote hours upon hours (and dollars upon dollars) to practice dual-wielding, you're really not going to hit anything and once the initial fun wares off, you'll probably be wishing you saved the $1000+ and bought something else instead, such as a nice shotgun or AR-15, both of which you can do a lot with. It's fun every once-in-a-while to duel-wield handguns, but I say just go with a buddy who will let you borrow his.

alright i think i'll go with a 1911 then. one of my friends owns a lot of guns and he has an auto colt, is that legal? Fully automatic??? Definitely not in California unless he has a class-3 license which is mighty hard to come by in these parts... I'm a big fan of the 1911. Personally, I don't really like the Glocks that much. If you're going for a polymer handgun, I'd say check out the Springfield XDs or the Smith and Wesson M&Ps, both of which I prefer over the Glock, though all are solid and good quality guns. If money is an issue (which it sounds like it isn't) then those might be a good choice, but the 1911 really is a superior gun.

Got a new scope/mount for my AR (plus a new grip, but that's not as exciting). The scope is a Leupold Mark-AR 3-9x40 and the mount is Larue quick-detach LT-104. I am super stoked! I can't wait to take it out and dial it in!
