I actually have enjoyed what I've heard from them. I've been meaning to buy their album from FYE, but always forget about it when I'm there.

fun. or Passion Pit?
At any rate two of my friends and I saw fun. about two weeks ago and they're phenomenal live. The day Nate left AZ was a sad day but everyone welcomed him with open arms. And they covered some Format songs!

I was talking about fun. I already own the Passion Pit album and I enjoy it quite a bit.

True, but jazz for me always works as upbeat happy music when I get tired of depressed heavy rock/metal, and want to hear something happy! Though I have to agree one ought to pick the right jazz. Stride always works perfectly for me. not sure what you mean by based on novelty Neither do I, but there's a genre called novelty piano, maybe he'll like that? (it's a subgenre of ragtime)

I'm high maitenence when it comes to upbeat music. I really can't do most indie since most of it drives me crazy, especially that lo-fi, acoustic and snare, tiny soft voice stuff. Ugh. I've wanted so bad to like Jazz forever but I just can't.
I guess a better way to describe what I want is music that is profound and happy. Something not shallow. I think I might be somewhat filling this void with Danielson Famile though, and I might get something out of the new Avett Brothers once I finally give it a fair listen... but I'm gonna need more.

I like bands like Relient K and House of Heroes. I imagine you wouldn't like them. But I actually think they're really good. Check out the House Of Heroes album The End Is Not The End. The harmonies are amazing.
If that is not for you, then maybe try the RX Bandits latest couple of albums? Those are really great.

Wow, Half-Handed Cloud is very good!
Also I've been listening to Dan Deacon and Rebecca Black, they're awesome too.

David Crowder Band Five Iron Frenzy (You'll probably consider them novelty, since they're a ska band, but I had to mention them since they're one of my favorites) I've often wished that there was some happy metal music. I don't see why heavy metal can't sound happy, but nobody makes happy-sounding metal. And that makes me sad. The Celestial Complettion CD is among the closest I've found to this, but it isn't quite it. I just sampled fun. on Youtube and I didn't last a minute. It definetly isn't my thing. this is more my kind of upbeat music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV-HPOHu8mYwww.youtube.com/watch?v=omoOLhDdTPA&feature=related

I don't think I like Volbeat.
David Crowder Band has a few decent songs, but they can be pretty boring after a while.
That's not true. Most power metal bands are pretty happy sounding (Rhapsody of Fire is the best of the genre that I've heard so far). Also been listening to A.C.T. - Imaginary Friends which is maybe metal/rock, but its "upbeat".

I haven't heard anyone mention A.C.T. forever! Some of my good buddies from highschool used to love those guys back in the day haha. Good band. As far as power metal goes, I really like (old) Angra, Shaman, and Andre Matos which are all pretty upbeat. I don't have any of their albums, but Freedom Call is pretty happy sounding too.
