Eh the new version (prequel) of "The Thing" was alright... Awesome special effects from the '80s version have been replaced with sucky CG, numerous plot-holes and "what the heck, why"s abound, etc. It had some creepy and fun moments, but overall fell pretty short of Mr. Carpenter's classic IMO.

Anyone see the new Wes Anderson flick (Moonrise Kingdom) I'm thinking about seeing it tonight. I've heard it's really good. I love all of his other films so I have pretty high expectations... Also, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World looks pretty good I think. I definitely hope to see that one soon too! EDIT: Moonrise Kingdom was pretty great! As other reviewers have stated, it's a little simpler and more straight-forward than some of his other works, but just as enjoyable. If you like Wes Anderson's other work or just enjoy quirky/somewhat-pretentious comedy/dramas with heart, I definitely recommend it.

I just watched Django Unchained last night. It was pretty good. There were a couple of scenes I could've done without (somewhat sadistic violence, etc.) but overall it was a good flick. I enjoyed Inglourious Basterds more however, but would still recommend Django for anyone with a strong stomach for violence haha.

*Les Miserables* was wonderful. This. Saw it on Saturday (was only released here last weekend), loved it, although I didn't think Russell Crowe was that great. Anne Hathaway should get best supporting actress at the Oscars, she was incredible. Django's out here this weekend, hoping to see it then.

It was pretty obvious that Crowe didn't have the same training as everyone else. But he carried the rest of the role very well. I didn't even recognize Hugh Jackman at first because of the weight he'd lost and the lack of hair.

I just finished watching Cosmopolis. Cronenberg is one of my favorite directors and while this isn't my favorite of his, it's pretty well done. With regards to his previous films, I'd say it is most comparable to Spider and Naked Lunch. Definitely one you'll get more and more from every time you see it. I recommend it for those who enjoy more cerebral, dark, and thought-provoking films.

I don't think it helped that pretty much every scene he was in, Jackman was in too, who has a huge musical theatre background, and upstaged Crowe in. Also, it's Gladiator vs Wolverine in song form.

Not sure if I'll see it or not, maybe one day. I really liked the epic with John Malkovich as Javert, that was awesome. Especially when this new movie has singing in it? that just seems like it'll be too comedic and less immersive of an experience.

I watched The Hobbit recently. Loved it. But it doesn't seem like it was complete. I recall in the book they fought the dragon and returned home and stuffs. But it ended before all that. I hadn't heard anything about a part two, but I'm thinking there must be one in progress.
