I'm surprised how satisfied with yourselves many of you are at such a young age. I'm happy with myself, but I'm certainly not satisfied with where I'm at. Hopefully, by the time I'm on my deathbed, I'll be satisfied with the life I've lived, but not now.

What if you die in the next few years though? You may not have a deathbed.

What's the good of unearned self-esteem? Why should we think highly of ourselves without achievements to be proud of? What if you die in the next few years though? You may not have a deathbed. True, I may not, but my point is that my goal isn't to be satisfied with myself, but to constantly better myself so that I can be the best I can possibly be. I'm happy with myself as in happy to be alive and full of a sense of purpose, but I'm not satisfied because I see a lot of room for improvement in my life.

Why should low self-esteem cause someone to fall into depression? I find the opposite to be true for me. The higher the self-esteem I have, the more dissapointed in myself I get when I don't live up to my self-image. But if I think soberly and realistically about myself, and I esteem others higher than myself, I tend to be able to see life more clearly which helps me to find the good in things.
