The first order of business is to convince him that it makes sense to have an open mind to these matters (which it objectively does). That is true. In the beginning of the books I am reading by William Lane Craig (which are Reasonable Faith and On Guard), arguments are not presented, rather, it is explained why one should even consider apologetics and the "big question" at all. This seems to be right in line with what you are saying and it was in front of me for a while now, haha.

The issue here is that religion/the existential experience is a very personal thing (or least it should be), therefore making it hard and very annoying to come up with a universally positive case. Christianity is all streamlined and packaged-up making it very easy for mass-distribution, but individualism makes the non-theistic side of things much more complicated. From personal experience, the only thing I can say is that there's so much less pressure in non-theism, no cosmic baby-sitter frowning and your each and every slip-up (which can lead to depression and dangerously low self-esteem).

Wasn't Brent a Christian a few years ago or something? Or am I being stupid? Yes, then I grew a brain.

through the power of an omnipotent being whose existence would make that entirely possible and easy

yes, God is omnipotent, he can not only fit two of every single animal into one vessel, and not only make them all impervious to one another for 40 days (even though there are carnivores who have basic hunting instincts) but they will survive those days eating dead carcasses when there are none and vegetation which cannot grow without light.
God can also make 2+2 = 5, give me airbourne aids, and make it rain hammocks

God's opinion of innocent and your opinion of innocent are two entirely different things.
Also, *something about imperfect world and bad things happening here but just an opportunity to glorify God through both good and bad times*
i can't be bothered to put that into a coherent sentence
