BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (AP) - Mourners in Sri Lanka used their bare hands to dig graves Tuesday while hungry islanders in Indonesia turned to looting in the aftermath of Asia's devastating tsunamis. Thousands more bodies were found in Indonesia, dramatically increasing the death toll across 11 nations to around 44,000. for more info visit home.bellsouth.net/s/editorial.dll?bfromind=842&eeid=4397011&_sitecat=1505&eetype=article&render=y&ck=i was pretty taken aback by this. the numbers are just insane. anyone else shocked by this? any thoughts?

I am just as shocked by the numbers as well. Those people just didn't have a chance to prepare for what came. Last death toll I heard was about 58000 now. And still climbing! Pray for peace and understanding and healing for that area.

Good grief. That boggles my mind. 3,000 people died in the World Trade Center attacks and Americans were going bonkers and rightfully so. Imagine if like everyone in your entire county was suddenly dead (unless you live in a really small county).

Yeah, my mom's been keeping up with the whole tsunami deal. I was watching the news with her the other night and they showed a clip of a man standing there crying with an arm full of clothes saying, "I had her right here...right here....but the water pulled her away...right out of my arms" (or something like that, I'm not totally sure the exact quote). But it turns out, he was talking about his little girl. It's so sad.
But, for something really amazing, they found a 20 day old baby floating on a mattress...alive.

With it hitting Indonesia so hard, I'm wondering if the guys from kekal are still alive. This is going to touch so many people. Death toll: 80,000

And still climbing isn't it? Yeah, and they're saying it'll be over 100,000 by the morning. On top of that disease will proabably kill more than that.

Yeah....my mom told me something interesting though.
The human fatalities are becoming astronomical.....but she said that the animal population has not experienced anything like that.

its pretty sad...
When my youth group started talking about it I felt pretty bad for them all. We were talking about how most of them are probably in hell. Thats really sad.

That is really sad...hearing things like that always make me feel like I should really get out there (at least around my school) and witness more. I want more of my friends to come to know Christ. I don't want something to happen to them that could end their lives in a split second and them not know who Christ is.
That's gonna be my New Year's resolution....to witness to more people.

I have to agree with what Alan said. Unfortunately, a lot of those 114,000 people probably didn't know Christ. But, I pray that there were some amongst the dead that did.

I am also saddened by this tragedy. These are climbing factors that do not speak well with our times.
One thing I have to think of though, is this. During that day that the tsunami hit, was the (Islam or Buddhist, cant remember?) holiday of (can't remember this name either..) in which people waded into the ocean waters and had a "cleansing" period. This is what I heard from the news, so I think of it as true at the moment, because I haven't delved to much deeper than that.
But do you think God is trying to say something?
Tsunami+Unbelievers=?
I don't know. It was just something my father and I discussed.
