Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq

President George W. Bush allegedly said God told him to invade
Iraq and
Afghanistan, a new BBC documentary will reveal, according to details.

Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003, the ministers told the documentary series to be broadcast in Britain later this month.

The US leader also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.

Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister, said: "
President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God.

'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.'

"And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did.

"'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath.

Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation.

"So I will get you a Palestinian state."

A BBC spokesman said the content of the programme had been put to the White House but it had refused to comment on a private conversation.

The three-part series, "Elusive Peace:
Israel and the Arabs", charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from former US president
Bill Clinton's peace talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip.

The programme speaks to presidents and prime ministers, their generals and ministers, about what happened behind closed doors as the peace talks failed and the intifada grew.

The series is due to be screened in Britain on October 10, 17 and 24.

Well, as far as I'm concerned... If Pope John Paul said that God is not on Bush's side should we invade Iraq, I side with him.

I find the Pope to be infinitely more credible than Bush's desperate attempt to have justification for the war.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I felt it should be pointed out.

Frankly I don't think God speaks that directly anymore. I mean, someone can correct me here, but as far as I know the only time God's voice is heard directly is in Revelation. Aside from that it is people being led by the Holy Spirit or by Jesus.

PWNED. JP2 is WISE, and almost certainly a saint. George Bush uses the name of God to further his own goals. I don't believe a word that comes from him anymore.

It's not a question of purpose, but of methods.

I like and respect Bush a lot and I trust all the judgment calls he has made so far. Yes there are some things he has done that I think he could have gone about differently but that is true with all of us. It is very easy for us to sit here and judge and criticize every little thing our government has done but when you ARE that person in charge things change dramatically. The one thing you have to admit about the President like him or not is the fact that he has always stuck to his decisions and has not let popular opinion sway him one way or another. Unless there is substantial evidence I don't think this article holds water or weight. Though I do believe Bush does genuinely try to do what he thinks the Lord would have him to do and I'm glad to have a President that seeks the Lord's council.

I think "I feel it's what the Lord would want me to do." works better than "God told me to" because then you're claiming to know without a doubt everything God wants...I'm not saying it's impossible, but I highly doubt it.
