A pretty normal but still very good performance by all said bands, Virgin Black being my favorite.
But what's strange is that what entertained me the most was the opening set, which was apparently a local music school showcasing their talent. It was a group of about 8 kids, which all took turns playing their instruments (some played more than one). Most of the kids looked about 12 and under, some even looked about 9 or 10. They played covers of stuff like Metallica, AC/DC and Scorpions (solos and all) flawlessly. I was impressed by this 12/13 year old girl, wearing a flowery dress and glasses, and completely belting out Hells Bells and Mr. Crowely. But what REALLY got me was the cover of Yngwie Malmsteen's Black star by this 9 year old and 12 year old kid.
I also saw Agalloch's vocalist in the audience. I had to restrain my fanboy instincts and just give him a humble handshake.
But yeah. It was cool.

I just saw them too, at San Francisco with my girlfriend. There weren't any young folks covering metal bands, but it was overall a great show. Virgin Black (the reason we were there) opened and were wonderful. My only complaint is that they used a lot of recordings and stuff which made the songs sound just like how they do on the albums. Personally I think it would've been cool if they used less of that and got a bit more creative. But all that said, Virgin Black was great. Samael was pretty good, though not totally my cup of tea. And Amorphis rocked. We really liked the singer's 3' dreadlocks too p.s. for dinner beforehand we went to this place called The Stinking Rose - a restaraunt where EVERYTHING is loaded with garlic. So epic. Anyone ever been there?

Yeah The Stinking Rose was mighty amazing indeed. Haha we were sat at a little table for two right next to a window looking out to the street. Everyone passing by kept staring at our food, so I started giving everyone the thumbs-up that the food was good. Poor Jessica was getting a bit embarrassed, though I thought it was funny.
Hmm I haven't been there. Is that an Indian restaurant? I love Indian food.

Cool. I like Chinese food too! I thought maybe you just spelled "naan" wrong which is some bread/tortilla kinda stuff they have at Indian restaraunts (probably in India too). Politics aside, San Francisco is a pretty cool place.
