I've known about these guys for a while but only recently I decided to finally buy their [only] album, "Dead as Dreams." Dang. This might just be my favorite black metal album ever. For those that haven't heard them, you can listen to most of their songs on myspace (though the quality sucks - the album is much better): www.myspace.com/weakling66

people still buy cassettes? Well, you are the vinyl geek. Didn't you think cassettes would come back eventually?

people still buy cassettes? Well, you are the vinyl geek. Didn't you think cassettes would come back eventually? The main problem is that cassettes sound awful regardless of quality of player, CDs sound a lot better on an equivalent quality unit, and cassettes have a lot more to go wrong with them than vinyl. Vinyl never really went away - there's still a lot of stuff released on vinyl (I got the newest Arcade Fire release a couple of days ago, as well as Ihsahn's first solo album, and there's a uk label, Back On Black, who are re-issuing a mountain of classic rock/metal albums), and a $200 turntable will sound better than a $200 cd player. Bands who release stuff on tape are doing it in an attempt to be cool, edgy, retro, or ironic, and it's stupid, but vinyl is still very much in demand.

Anyone listen to one of John Gossard's other previous bands, The Gault? I bought their cd from him at the Dispirit show and it's fabulous. It's doom metal, not black metal fyi.
