Alright, I'm expecting some hate on this one. But I genuinely respect this band for using vocal counterpoint very well and writing catchy music. But they only have two good albums. Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want to Be are the only good ones.
Louder Now and New Again both suck. The guitar parts are incredibly boring and you're stuck with nothing but vocals which don't get the job done, unfortunately.
I used to think it was because Fred left. And then I remembered Fred was on Louder Now. I guess it can be chalked up to bad producers, a bad new direction, and overall pretentiousness. Adam Lazzara learned to sing and all of a sudden they suck.
The lineup from Tell All Your Friends is supposedly back and recording a new album. Now I'm curious. This lineup never released a bad cd, but they only released one. The next lineup released what, is in my opinion, their best, but followed it with a real stinker.
The original line-up features John Nolan of Straylight Run. The following one had Fred from the Colour Fred.
Anybody making any calls on what this is going to be like?
Personally, I'm not sure. John's current work has had a decent amount of melody in the songs, some I'm hopeful. I hope they don't continue on the current "mainstream rock" phase they've been in. They were always better as a Post-Hardcore band.

None of this matters because Sufjan Stevens exists
