I just heard from my mom that my cousin Mike died early this morning. He was a mentally handicapped man....I think he was in his 40s (44?) and had just learned sign language. My grandmother, when she called my mom, told my mom that they had been looking for a nursing home down here in Alabama so that my Uncle Johnny and Mike could come back down here and be with the family.
I signed up to take sign language courses at school with the hopes that I would one day be able to talk with Mike....I can't now...
I called Alan and told him and he helped out a lot. Told me that Mike wasn't handicapped anymore, that he was happy now and it really was for the best that he died. I know for a fact Mike is with God now but it doesn't make it any easier for my family. My uncle Johnny (who I used to be really close to before they moved to Illinois) took care of Mike and he's taking his death really hard.
Please keep me and my family in your prayers, like I said, this happened just a few hours ago and my mom just found out to tell me and Kyle. Pray that we make our trip safely when we go to the funeral and get back home safely.
Thanks guys..

Well, between the Shma board, this board and the myspace and anywhere else, I'm sure you will have a lot of good people who got your back in prayer. And I'm one of those.

Thank you so much. I found out that the funeral will NOT be held up in Illinois. Since my Uncle Johnny was retiring and moving back down here anyway, he thought it would be best that Mike was buried near his family.

We buried him today.....it was the hardest thing I've had to go through since my grandmother died last year...I'm not doing too well today, so continued prayers are more than welcome.

im sorry for your loss. i know youve probably heard this a lot, but, he is perfected now and free of any disability.in Christ there are no goodbyes. you know youll see him again.your situation hits home with me because my daughter is 5 and has special needs.the way we see these spirit filled "disabled" people is altogether different than God. in Him they are perfect, without sin and able to hear from Him clearer than the rest. im sure your cousin touched many lives and made a lot of people become better humans. my daughter made me(really God did) come out of mediocrity into something better.i will be praying for johnny and you and the rest of your family.i know mike is praying with Jesus for you right now...take care sister...

*crying* Today was so hard...especially being with my Uncle Johnny (Mike's dad). He just...*sigh* he broke my heart today. When we were leaving, he just looked back at the site and says "Well, there goes my buddy".

I am still praying for you too, and I will also pray for Johnny that God would help him get through the loss of his son, and that God would bless him.

When we were leaving, he just looked back at the site and says "Well, there goes my buddy". Oh, that just really makes me wanna cry. I am still praying for you all, and I agree with Ezekiel, Mike is praying with Jesus for you in heaven right now.
