Ok, I've been doing quite a bit of thinking on this subject. I'd like to know what you think.
...the Bible never denies the existence of other gods or goddesses. I believe there to be but one “true god,” that is, there is but one Creator and only He is God. The others are half-gods, spirits that were created by Elohim for reasons known only to Himself.
These half-gods are not all-good, all-knowing and all-powerful. After Satan fell, he took a number of angels with him: suggesting that the angels had free will in the matter.
I am fully aware of the First Commandment. Notice, however, that Elohim says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” This does not say that there are no other gods. Elohim knew that the half-gods he had created had fallen, and wanted to protect his people against the half-gods. The half-gods did not care about the Israelites in the least, as can be seen by the rampant human sacrifice present in their religions.
These half-gods are not many in number. They do have real power, but their power is nothing when compared to that of Elohim’s. Also, since only Elohim has ever defeated Lucifer, only the followers of Elohim have any real advantage.
However, do note that not all the half-gods are fallen. It seems that at least a few stayed in the service of Elohim. Wisdom and Faith are both mentioned in the Bible as servants of Elohim. It is imperative that one does not worship these half-goddesses. Wisdom and Faith did not save our souls, and they are but half-goddesses. Pay them honour but by no means think them worthy of worship.
Others, on the other hand must be avoided and their names never spoken in reverence. Baal, for example, demanded the sacrifice of children and sex ritual. This was to give him strength for his battle with Death. Elohim in comparison took on Death alone. Death won – for three days. Everything must perish, but since Elohim has already broken the power of Death, He need not perish again.
For some, humanity creates the half-gods themselves. Perhaps only a few half-gods existed before humanity (Wisdom, Faith, Mithras, Baal) and then humanity created the others through worship. Words have a special power in the lands of the spirit. Now there is Capitolas (probably not real name), half-god of money, Lunis, a half-goddess of witchcraft, Eros, half-god of lust, Bacchus, half-god of drink, and Vehemens, half-god of violence.
One may argue that these half-gods offer a path to heaven. They do not. None of these half-gods have defeated Death, and are still subject to mortality. Everything that is and will be must pass away.
Let me know what you think.
