Pride rears his head above the Church,
Making known what he has done
The rape of Honour on the bed of Arrogance,
Never claimed to my heart
What ravens did to my face.
Blossoms fall in the dusk
Fragrance graces the Beauty
A pearl of folly.
Envy like a venom creeps near,
Whispering her lies
Hollow men and slain gods
Lying dead in my tower.
Mounted the morning with the heroes,
Only to cast them down to guard what I have nothing of.
Such is the fate of liars
A scourge of tongues for the heathen.
Gluttony consumes the feast
The noble banquet that we scorned
Our betrayal bought for silver
The lure of wine tortures even I
Twisted hungers eat the flesh
The beast that I am to defile the rain
Disgust my only world,
Deny what you have been given.
Lust be my mistress,
Blessed whore that you are!
Why can't you sleep
Why can't you leave me in peace for but one night?
A gathering of prostitutes under the trees
Cavorting with the diseased
Nobility forgotten here
All forsaken to please Queen Pleasure.
Anger is the brand that drives me
Burn a hole right through my back
No room here for peace
Gods of wrath call from the north
Remembered insults torment me still
The mocking wind lashes me
Granting me the madness I feed on
And all the fallen mourn for me.
Greed presents herself
Bending to my ear with lips like honey
I cannot hear myself think
Only her promises like leaves fall about me
A lotus in my eye
A daughter I behold
But all for naught, for she still calls
Her words leave me more barren than I have ever been before.
Sloth invites me to sleep finally
For the war is done
Lethargy invites me to bed
To lie in dreaming all night long
Yet the orchard is empty
All the fruit has withered,
My eyes are lead, and dross bids me rest
What more can I complete?
Gehanna awaits me with open maw
I grasped nothing that I saw
A black pool of dark, warm mire
Is the only reward for my desire
Repentance with half my heart
Pleasures from which I could not part
Gates open wide to greet me here
Numb are my prayers for want of fear
And all those I served in life
Assembled to mock me in my strife
Pointed fingers and laughing eyes
Beckon me under the ashen skies
Farewell...
-This is not how I usually write. I don't like it as much as my other stuff, but I had something in my blood that I had to get out, and here it is...
