they must have moved it. here it is now (though i don't know for how much longer). what it says:
Bibles Passed Out In Rockwall High School Last Edited: Friday, 22 Sep 2006, 12:10 AM CDT Created: Thursday, 21 Sep 2006, 8:40 PM CDT
Students say it would be one thing if a private religious school allowed Bibles to be passed out. But for it to happen at a public school raises constitutional questions.
When FOX 4 arrived at Rockwall High, school was just letting out, and the folks with the Gideons Bible company were just packing up. The company estimates it handed out roughly 2,000 Bibles, which is practically the entire student body.
"I couldn't believe it," said student Darren Childs. "I walked into school and there, right on top of a table with our school colors, are Bibles and they're being passed out."
Childs says he's Christian and was still offended. He says a public school has no business supporting one religion over another.
"And it's the New Testament, which is probably offensive to Jewish students," he said. "But what about Muslims? The school just shouldn't be doing it. It's not legal."
The Gideons Bible company didn't see any big deal.
FOX 4 asked, What about the separation between church and state? "We're not a church," replied Ray Schwertner of Gideons International. "We're a business."
And the Rockwall School District says its policy is based on the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech. Besides, the Gideons have been doing it ever other year here and until now, the school district says no one has complained.
"So if tomorrow someone wanted to pass out the Koran they could, and the next day another religion's bible?" FOX 4 asked.
"They could as long as it met with the board's approval," said Joy Greenwalt of the Rockwall ISD Communications Office.
The school district says it's sorry if any students were offended and points out that no one was forcing anyone to accept a Bible.
But Darren Childs disagrees. He says by allowing the company to pass out Bibles, it pits religion against religion and student against student, and he says that's the gospel truth.
"I was called a heathen by other students because I was against this," he said. "And I don't appreciate that. I believe in the Bible."
The practice of passing out Bibles in a public school is on shaky legal ground. Just last week in Missouri, a federal judge ruled against a school for allowing Gideons to pass out Bibles at an elementary school, saying it improperly promotes Christianity.

good grief. All of this junk about being offended and the cries about 'MY RIGHTS' are getting to be a bit too much.
I'm offended by the word 'blue'. So I think we should have the education system eliminate all of its forms and uses. Simply because it offends ME.
If people perceive the Bibles as being forced down their throats, they are free to completely misconstrue what was going on. That's their choice; it's what so many people over the past 200+ years have died to give them.
This was the students choosing make it an issue over it.
Not the Gideons.

The Gideons passed out bibles right off of campus at my school. No one seemed to have a problem with it, because they don't MAKE you take one. Someone could just say, "Sorry, I'm (blank)" fill in the blank with Muslim, Jewish, Buhddist, Atheist, whatever. It's not like they're going to stone the people that don't take one.
I didn't take one because I already have my own, but I didn't tell the guy that, I just walked by. He didn't care.

This kid obviously has a lot to learn. If you're Christian, and you see Bibles being handed out, you rejoice that the message is getting out, you pray for the kids to receive that message.
You don't get offended by it.
And I agree with cleetus....the students CHOSE whether or not they'd TAKE the bibles. No one forced it on them. If you so happened to be a student who didn't believe in that, all you had to do was say "No" and that was it. That should've been the end of the issue.

Oh, one more thing...that article didn't say anything about the teachers saying "OK kids, get out the Bibles you were given this morning, we're going to study the chapter of Genesis."
THAT is the point where it becomes "unconstitutional". Teachers are not allowed to teach it, or something like that.
But this never happened....so why make a big deal about it?
And while we're at it, let's just shut down all the churches. Let's take John Hagee and people like him off the air. They're promoting Christianity in a good way, and that must be wrong.

Sheesh, I don't understand the problem.
I mean, I have a problem with schools forcing kids to pray (as they used to), or forcing kids to say the pledge of allegiance or sing the national anthem (many still do), but this has nothing to do with any person imposing their will on someone else. If they were putting a Bible on every kid's chair then yeah, that's one thing. But if it's one group of people offering Bibles to people who WANT THEM...

My school (before I got out to homeschool) didn't make anyone stand for the pledge or even acknowledge the "moment of silence".
Schools don't FORCE anything on students anymore, at least not consciously haha.

It kills me how you can't discuss religion even when you are forcefed evolution as truth. I think as a learning institution, you should be able to discuss your opinions and views, especially since discussion fosters learning.

Praying at school: Depending on if it is a private or public school you can (private you can, public you cant).... and as long as you let the parents know. at least, it's like that here in Canada.... Anyway, I sort of understand why the kid was upset. I personally don't like it when people start taking up a megaphone and start preaching that you will go to hell if you don't accept Christ. THAT i find offensive. As for handing out Bibles in schools, I think that is really awesome! I go to a private Christian school (and its not all its cracked up to be at all, so don't stereotype it! or me!!) and we had the Gideons come. They handed out the bibles and half of them were in the garbage by the end of the day. As for making kids pray at school, they do at my school and I hate it... AND I'M CHRISTIAN!! It really gets on my nerves when they do that, but I can't do anything about it. anyway... thats some of my veiw... i think i was trying to say something more, but i lost my train of thought..... it happens often.

all i gatta say is... "these days are evil, no one can stop them..." no but seriously...
i thought that was clever...
But that is an idea tho.... (i was being sarcastic plz no one take offense to that, i know how everything i say on these forums gets me yelled at)
One things i think is really kewl in China in school you study the Bible old and new testiment. (but they are told it's strictly fiction) But God really uses it to open doors because so many of them are curious to what certain versus and such mean. blah blah blah what am i talking about....
