National Laws change all the time, if a country wants to do something that is against the law, they change the law. Why don't you just change the consitution and give everybody healthcare?

I don't understand all the fuss you Americans have about your constitution.... Seriously? Its the law the founding fathers created. They DIED for liberty. They DIED for each and every one of us. What you just said SHOULD BE VERY OFFENSIVE to all Americans that actually know how America was founded. My ounce of respect I had for you is gone. Should we just have let the British government buttf**k us? Notice the reason we had the revolution in the first place was for all these UNJUST TAXES, Sounds like 1776 all over again to me.

Oh no, I wouldn't expect you to have a risk of paying a little more than you do now, for a healthy nation. I'm sure the British would invade you again if you change the constitution a little bit so you can have a universal healthcare system.
I really don't understand all that stuff about the founding fathers and the revolution. My own country was formed by a war a few hundred years earlier, they died for freedom (of religion), to stop being opressed by Catholics and Spain. (at the time, Holland was possesed by catholic Spain). But here people don't start wining about freedom everytime somebody suggest altering the consitution a little bit.
Then again, Holland is the least patriotic country in the world, as far as I can tell.
(Also, why do I keep getting advertisements about transvestites on this forum?)

You just asked why we were hung up on it. You really can't read can you? Just as a side, universal healthcare in this country is at least as much of a practical problem as it is a legal one. A bunch of fat idiots on the hill want us to commit money to something (never mind the fact that we're in debt out the ass) that they fail to put a dollar ammount on. There are too many unknowns at this point for it to be a practical decision. We're learning over here not to trust our government, because they're all incompetent fools. Obviously this makes us a little concerned about just handing over a blank check when they haven't even presented a definite resolution yet.

Should we just have let the British government buttf**k us? yes, because then the entirity of North America would have the Queen as head of state, and UK tourists/immigrants wouldn't get an absolute grilling at customs when we fly over there for a holiday/to work

back on topic, surely this bit:
with reference to a universal healthcare system paid for through taxes is showing that universal healthcare is constitutional?

I think it's plenty Constitutional if done properly. The problem bit is that little bit about general welfare. The populace needs to be popularily convinced that this is the right thing for the country, and so far our leaders have failed to do so. Surely there are always going to be a few Runnys sitting in their log cabins and b**ching, but the general populace needs to decide that it's a good choice. Right now, the message we're getting is "give us your money, trust us, we'll take care of you".

If it was unconstitutional wouldn't that make Medicare and Medical unconstitutional as well?
