If you skipped the BIO page here is a breif explanation of the name; "Becoming The Archetype".
According to Genesis 1:26, "God said, ‘Let us make man in our image'". Since Jesus was the only person to ever live a sinless life, He is the ultimate archetype (or original design) of humanity. As a result, the life of a Christ follower is all about being conformed to the image of God or in other words, "Becoming The Archetype".

I kinda like the name. The only problem is that it's a little long.
Like I've said before to you, I'm not Christian, and I'll be the first to say that, but I respect what you guys do. I wish the best of luck to you, and if you ever need help just let me know.

I was reading Genesis the other day and I came across 1:26 and stopped. I wasnt thinking about the name at the time, I was thinking more about angels.
When God created us he made us in his own image, but he said to let *us* create man in our image. Does that mean that all the angels in heaven look like us? The reason I ask this is becuase many people have given me different discriptions on angels.
Any thoughts?

When God said "Let us make man in our image..." He was referring Himself...The Trinity.
I don't think we look like angels. Somewhere in the Bible (I forget where) it describes a type of angel called Cherubim (sp?) and it talked about them having three faces.
I'd have to look up on it again to get the full description, but some pastors, including scholars like Lahaye and Jenkins, think that because of the way these angels looked, that's why they said "Do not be afraid" before they gave God's message to humans.
It's really interesting, I'll see if I can find it again.

So..... if God was talking about the trinity, where does Jesus come in..... or was Jesus a part of the trinity before he was born?

It's really interesting, I'll see if I can find it again. First: John 1:3, 1:10, Romans 11:36 and Colossians 1:16 all say...(paraphrased) All things were made by and/or through Him. It doesn't say all things were made by Him and the angels. That is conclusive evidence in my mind that Gen 1:26 is a conversation going on within the Trinity. Pretty neat huh? Second: As for the angels with multiple faces deal, there is no doubt that angels appear in many different forms in the Scriptures. Remember, they are spiritual beings rather than physical although they often appear in physical form. However, when you read these descriptions of angels it is also important to consider the symbolic significance. For instance, a creature covered in eyes demonstrates to us that God is omnipresent and omiscient. Nothing happens that he does not see. Now whether or not there are creatures around the throne covered in eyes or with multiple heads, horns, crowns etc...I dont know. I hope that helps.

So..... if God was talking about the trinity, where does Jesus come in..... or was Jesus a part of the trinity before he was born? Good question. The man named Jesus is part of what is called "the incarnation". That is to say that God became man in the flesh. The person of the Trinity which took on flesh as Jesus (Emmanuel=God with us) is The Son who has existed from eternity past. Keep in mind that according to the doctrine of the Trinity, the person we call The Son of God is in essence God. There are three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit but only one essence. Each is equally God. There are not three Gods just three persons; thats why its called the Trinity. Just remember the old hymn "Holy holy holy, Lord God Almighty, God in three persons blessed Trinity" Does that help? I know its a lot to swallow but if you want to know more just ask. If you are really stumped (not just you but anyone) send me a private message and let me know so we can talk on the phone or on AIM or something.

Hmmm...I have questions (don't we all) but not necessarily about this. I've been able to grasp the concept of the Trinity fairly well. I dunno...a lot of it has to do with certain things I've grown up with and I just wonder about...

In time, the more you read and the more you study God's Word, it will come alive and it will be easy to talk about. It will all make sense in time. When I first read the Bible with people who had a grasp of what it was all about, the Bible came alive to me in ways I never imagined. One day, I'll share my long and boring story of when I became a Christian.

Also, the uniqueness of God is that all three persons of the trinity interact with one another. That's why illustrations like "trinity is like solid, liquid, gas" or "they are three things just with different roles" don't really work. Jesus prayed in the garden of gethsemane, remember? How cool is it that the trinity has relationships among themselves but are ALL God... that will make your brain hurt!
One other thing I like about the trinity is that each is a person. The Bible never refers to an "It" but says HE in regards to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Wisdom, I'm diggin your knowledge skills. Did you take seminary classes or something? Have you read the book Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem... I think its perhaps the best exhaustive theological resource out there.

yeh i went to a Baptist college and studied Christian theology for 2 and a half years. i have not read that particular book but i will look into it. my personal collection is pretty small, but i have Erickson's Systematic Theology and Geisler's Christian Ethics. Other than that i have lots concordances, lexicons, commentarys and a whole pile of smaller works. Some authors i have read lately are Lewis, Tozer, and Schaeffer.
and oh yeh! remember to actually sign up as i will only be allowing guests to post for a little while here.

I think I got registered. Thanks.
I just came on full-time staff with Campus Crusade for Christ and we used Systematic Theology for some of our training courses. Another fun doctrine book was called What Christianity Is All About by Alan Scholes, who taught the class.
I enjoy Lewis as well... Piper and Packer are two of my fave authors.
Hey, also wanted to say rock on... i'm excited for you to be on solidstate... my personal fave label. I think i've been listening to solidstate just about since its formation from t&n... quality bands. Rock!
And hey, maybe I'll catch you, hook you up with venue ideas in Huntington, WV while I'm up there (I'll be a campus staff at Marshall University once I'm finished raising my support). I know they have a place called the HYAMP which has had some big shows come through, most recently the Eighteen Visions and solidstate Youngbloods tour.
Peace and God bless
