I've heard many people argue that religion as a whole is a bad thing because "they're just out to control your life." Who honestly (in America) is the most out to control peoples' lives? Is it your average streetcorner church? Is it the rich oil worker who has made an honest living?
No, these, for the most part are people trying to do the best that they can in life, and that's what many of them want for others: the opportunity to do the best you can. I have many Christian friends, and when I walked away from the Lord, none of them tried to force their morals on me. None of them demanded that I repent or burn in Hell, and I hardly ever see Christians trying to manipulate others.
I would argue that the Liberal agenda is more about control than the Evangelical Christian or Conservative agenda. The people in Washington and the politcal activists have been the ones trying to manipulate people. They are the ones telling us what we can and cannot say, spreading hate, and trying to run our lives. Maybe I'm just isolated up here in Alaska, but it seems like Radical Government agendas are to blame for the attacks on our freedom, and the Church poses little, if any, threat in comparison.

Liberals themselves are not bad, corrupted liberals are.
I do not like how people want the "church" to get into government. leave both alone and keep them seperate, we would be better off without a daily god session in f**kin government.

IMO the statement "they are the ones telling us what we can and cannot say, spreading hate, and trying to run our lives" is in itself a radical statement. and on a TOTALLY unrelated note when I read this: "the rich oil worker who has made an honest living" - I thought of this ha ha:

Jeremy, I was just stating a matter-of-fact about groups like the ACLU. They have filed many suits that convince me that their only agenda is to silence their political opponents, in particular, those who profess a monotheistic religion. They come against freedom of speech under the guise of Seperation of Church and State when in reality their opponents had nothing to do with Theocracy.
Runny, I know there are some honest liberals. I once was one. I have friends who are liberals, and I completely respect them and think they're wonderful people. I just don't understand why they want to give the Government the power to run much of their lives.

I want limited Government too. I would much prefer a small Liberal government to a large Conservative Government! I don't think that's possible though. Big Government seems to be one of the Left's trademarks.
What have you been liking about the Swedish Government?

Yeah, I see what your saying. The more I discover about politics in general the more I realize that the only goal is to win the next election and gain political power (and this is true for all sides).

Thanks for all your posts! The main point I wanted to make in this thread is that Christianity is blamed for far more modern-day discrimination, hate, and manipulation than it is responsible for. Sure, there is some of that, as our media is so quick to point out. But no one ever hears about the good that is done in the name of Christ. We forget about the charity and aid to suffering people that Christian faith has inspired numerous people to do. Even if you don't believe in God, one must take a few seconds to look at things objectively and give credit where it is due.
Faith gives people reason to do good even if they want to do bad. It gives mankind purpose and something to live for. Even if my belief is misguided, I still must bow to this God who gives me the power to do good and live justly when every other way, all I could do was evil and think about killing myself. I had a hard time with the Christian view of Hell until I realized how much I deserve it. I need a Savior to save me everyday, and even though I make mistakes, my life is different and much better than I ever was without my God.
This is why I think our Government is making a huge mistake each time it comes against the freedom of one to profess his or her faith. Faith in my opinion deserves far more credit, and Uncle Sam deserves less.

Doesn't that money come from the taxpayers?
On to a more grave and distressing matter: I have compiled a list of the biggest threats that Christianity currently poses to the American public. That's right, these terrorists walk around in many disguises; you can't tell them apart from anyone else at first glance. Beware of anyone you see, they might smile at you and tell you about Jesus if you talk to them long enough. They might be concerned about your well-being and ask you if there's anything they can help you with. And on to the most grave and serious matters: they might ask you if you want prayer for any illness you might have. There are even some who speak in a gibberish language called tongues: OH MY! We must do anything we can to repress these happy people! They are contaminating our depressed and politically correct society and believe that there is hope for mankind to change.
Most of these people aren't harming anyone, but if we don't stop them soon enough comrades: they will! There's little sign of it now, but believe me these do-gooder Jesus People will rise up soon enough and ruin our hopeless world if we don't stop them immediately!

Ha... as my father always points out... "The problem is that those who cry out against intolerance are intolerant of those who are intolerant."
I agree, Patrick... that's why it should be obvious for a Christian that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12) The world is fighting to maintain it's course in depravity, and anything that wants to get in the way (Christians) are going to catch some flak.
