What indicates whether the artist is actually Christian or not? There are some factors that can indicate it, but I agree it's a tricky subject. For a part, as Metzuda says, you can probably find some information about the artists lifestyle on the internet, that could possibly help. Another is how open they are about their faith, if you go to their myspace, and the first thing you see is "JESUS IS COMING!!!!!!", they'll probably be pretty Christian. If they are more closed about their faith, and never really say anything about it, that might indicate the state of their faith is not so well. But basically, I don't really know a good method to judge evry artist easily and 100% fail-proof either. If you are doubting, you should just pray about it...... Sweet, now I know how to make a Christian music project and sell tons of records. I guess all those holy televangelists would be included in this. I honestly don't believe you can tell someone's spiritual stance by glancing at their myspace or finding out what sins they've committed on the internet. Come on.

On the other hand, you can judge a tree by its fruit....... If televangilists have lots of converts, don't spread arround weird heresies, and their healings and stuff are real, I daresay I have fairly good ground to judge him, as being real. Also, prayer.

Honestly, that is the stupidest way of telling someone is "christian" I have ever heard. I agree judging they by their fruit, but I think the fruit you should judge is whether they follow sound doctrine and what their character (fruit of the spirit stuff) is like. Not whether they put a stupid bulletin, pray out loud, or go to church every Sunday, or put the most in the donation box or other appearance oriented stuff.

Some times people make music to entertain people. If a band doesn't say "HAI GUISE W R CHRISTIAN NOW K LOL" then they obviously have a bad/very little faith in God.

The point of being on Solid State wouldn't be to make money. It'd be to become more well-known, then you go to a bigger label and make money there.

Exactly, and the bands that do say that only want in to solid state to get some money thrown their way. Christian metal bands have an unusually small market. Granted, it has grown over the years, but it is still unbelievably small. Any notion that a Christian band would join Solid State and act like Christians to make money is ridiculous. It is far too difficult. Ok, but you can't deny that getting noticed as a Christian band is a lot easier than getting noticed as a secular act.

Not whether they put a stupid bulletin, pray out loud, or go to church every Sunday, or put the most in the donation box or other appearance oriented stuff. James tells us faith without deeds is dead, and Christ tells us that those who do not acknowledge Him before others, will not be acknowledged by Him before the Father. So yes, I'd say the least of all requirements for a band to be Christian, filled with members who have a living faith, will be a very obvious attitude towards Christianity, and somewhat of a godly lifestyle. I'm not saying every band with a sinner in it cannot be Christian, but if the members live wordly lifestyles, rather than comitting an error every now and then, they've either been converted very recently, or it might be an indication their faith is dead, because it is without deeds. The fruit of faith is a godly lifestyle.......... Obviously, deeds without faith are just as dead, so only deeds are not enough for a living faith, we are after all saved by faith, not by deeds. And about their doctrine, if some band has false teachings in their lyrics, that's even more obvious a sign there's something wrong with their faith, I agree on that one. Also, prayer.

I'm not saying every band with a sinner in it cannot be Christian Christians are still sinners too. Are they? I don't think so. Biblically, "sinner" I think would be associated with non-believers... as Mike Bickle said "Christians are lovers who sin, not sinners who try to love." So... I wouldn't say Christians are sinners. That's not to say we don't sin, but it's not our nature, anymore.

Oh God, not another one of you whack jobs.
Christians are sinners. All of us are sinners. All human beings are equal. Don't try to put yourself on a pedestal and say "Well, I'M not a sinner anymore." That's total garbage, and don't even try to deny it.
