I have a wierd view of my religious beliefs. I am proud to say that I believe in Christianity. But, I have a different view on it than what I would think most people would have. I pray every night before I got to bed. If I don't I have a hard time getting to sleep. It has also helped me through tough times. If someone wants to ask me about my beliefs and why I am like that, I will be happy to help. I even go to a bible study group. My biggest "problem" if you can call it that is church. I do not understand it. I don't get why you have to go to church to remind yourself of God. I don't get why you go because most of it, in my mind, is just a version of the bible that the pastor gives you. He isn't trying to benifit you as much as he is himself. I don't see why, if you read the bible, pray, and are willing to show people your point of view, why you would have to go to church to proclaim what you and everyone around you already knows. I don't have a huge problem with going. It just seems like when I am listening to the pastor, it is all a bunch of processed jibberish that isn't even that close to the right message. I went to two different churches, miles apart, and they had the EXACT same service. Do pastors even make their own services? I wouldn't mind church in the least bit if it was just praying and singing praise with others. Maybe talking about how we perceive the bible. I don't know what I am talking about. What do you guys think about this?

As far as Christianity goes, the Bible stresses that fellowship with other believers is extremely important for a healthy spiritual life (one reason why church is a good thing.)
Also, it's obvious that there are different pastors out there (odds are that there are a few "bad" ones.) But I think it's good to listen to sermons from preachers that you believe you can trust--because, honestly, they've had more training as far as theology and understanding the more difficult parts of the Bible goes.
Teaching yourself Calculus may be possible, but you're more likely to screw up and become stressed.

A perfect God would have a perfect book, free of non-sense.

That is hardly a contradiction if you are looking at the Old Testament in light of the New Testament and the fulfilling of the law. And a "fyi," theologists and biblical experts say that the most contradicting statement within the Bible is when one account (I think it's Luke) says there are 72 people, and another account (concerning the same story) says 70.
The translation could be wrong, the scribe might have rounded, but it's hardly damning the entire book to utter foolishness.
"A perfect God would have a perfect book."
I'm not sure what rules you're playing by with this statement (or are you just making it up?), but I'd have to somewhat agree. The Bible, when scribed by those apparently "filled with the Holy Spirit," was, in essence, perfect. However, as translations and copies were made, human errors (however small) undoubtedly had to occur.
Which is why we really should study The Bible as much as we can and attempt to get its full meaning. It's another reason why preachers are a good idea. Most of them have studied the original languages that The Bible was written in, thus they have a better slant on translations, etc...

Yet again I'm so bored I have to argue with another somewhat knowledgable yet completely generic Christian.
Ugh. God said something about it basically being impossible to change any law made by him. I forgot the damn verse, but its there in the Bible. That is a contradiction, when saying Old and New Testament are different laws. What God says goes, no matter what.
If the Bible is so open to interpretation and full of a jealous and contradicting God's (who we cannot fully understand) rambings, I have no reason to worship him.
All I have is human logic, I can only use logic to determine what is fact and fiction. If God is all good, he cannot be evil. Common sense. If God really does exist I'd like to hear his explaination before being sent into eternal separation from him for not putting complete faith in his existence.

I'm not going to participate in a debate when you're too lazy to even provide the backup for your arguments.
Cheers.
